Food Corps

Food Corps logo.

Since 2018, PS 42 has worked with a FoodCorps AmeriCorps service member through our partnership with Community Food Action at New Settlement. FoodCorps aims to connect all children with fresh, healthy food through hands-on learning, fostering a school wide culture of health and supporting healthy school meals.

Our service members, Selma Nuñez, who served the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school year, and Eva Wertimer, currently serving, have taken on a wide range of activities. These include planning cooking lessons for students, organizing school wide events to engage families and tending to our community garden.

Our partnership with FoodCorps allows us to connect students to the source of healthy food and its importance in our communities and live
